From the Book: “We, not me”

I selected the phrases for my coloring book to say what I thought might be most important to others within the activist community.  But because the coloring book simply has the coloring pages without commentary, I thought I might use this venue to elaborate a bit on why I chose to include what I did.

“We, not me.”

This is one of those phrases I think is a general mantra we should all be focusing on more often.

Nearly anything we undertake is, at some level, about more than our own personal achievements.  There is very little most of us can accomplish without the help or cooperation of others.  Furthermore, there is usually more to be gained in the long run by working towards a collective success than an individual benefit.

So it’s essential, if we seek to change the world, to focus not on doing what will make us feel good or bring us individual glory or success, but to focus on doing what will bring the most benefit to the most people and in doing so with the help and support of others.
