I selected the phrases for my coloring book to say what I thought might be most important to others within the activist community. But because the coloring book simply has the coloring pages without commentary, I thought I might use this venue to elaborate a bit on why I chose to include what I did.
“Fear is a call for courage.”
When you’re scared of what’s happening in the world, that’s when you are most needed. It’s much easier to let fear cause despair, but despair won’t change the world.
A wise old Time Lord once said, “Courage isn’t just a matter of not being frightened, you know. It’s being afraid and doing what you have to do anyway.”
The things we are most afraid of should be the things we fight hardest against. They should be the things which prompt us to get up and do what we know needs to be done in spite of being afraid. Fighting for change sometimes means confrontation, risk, or stepping outside our own comfort zone. But those threats we feel are the very things we are fighting against. And if we don’t take that call to courage and do what we have to do anyway, the threats will eventually consume us.
