My biggest fundamental gender issue when it comes to spirituality is the idea that there’s a different development path for men and women. That there’s something valuable about becoming the man or the woman that god/the universe/evolution/magic/whatever want or can help you be.
Why not just be the best humans we can be?
What is the function of setting up different sets of ideals for different groups of people within the same spiritual path?
The only function of having different end roles depending on gender is to relate the the different roles allowed for those genders in secular life. Some of the gender-based spiritual roles exist as a counterpoint or are a reaction against the changing gender roles in society. Some reinforce the existing systems. But the two are linked. And we can’t address the inequities and injustices tied to one without looking at the other as well.
